Dr Ashraf Zaman - Higher Thinking's first PhD graduate

We have some exciting news to share. Higher Thinking's first PhD recipient, Dr Ashraf Zaman has been awarded his PhD.

'I want to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to both the 'Higher Thinking Fund' and my supervisor A/Prof. Kerrie McDonald for selecting me for the first Higher Thinking Fund PhD award. I want to thank Shalom and Dave personally, they have been a true inspiration to me. The award has given me the privilege to work on a difficult area of low grade glioma research. With the immense support from Higher Thinking and my supervisor, I was able to develop Australia's first low grade glioma models, both in vitro and in vivo. These models are now being used to understand the low grade glioma biology and to determine the new treatment strategies through both national and international collaboration.

I would like to continue the research and use my knowledge and experience towards finding the cure for glioma. I believe the cure will come from the lab very soon if more foundations like Higher Thinking come forward to support the researchers for their groundbreaking research.'

Dr Zaman developed world class models of low grade glioma. These models consist of cell lines and animal patient derived xenografts (PDXs) that will enable on-going use by the lab and other collaborators to develop drugs for LGG. Thank you to all our Higher Thinkers for making this happen!
